HDPE pipe is a flexible plastic pipe used for fluid and gas transport, often to replace aging concrete or steel mains. Made from thermoplastic HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), HDPE differs from traditional density polyethylene because it has a higher molecular weight and can be manufactured by three methods: Ziegler, Phillips or "gas phase". Within the polyethylene family, HDPE coexists with UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) and is used to make very durable fibers, such as those used in bulletproof jackets, which resist up to 15 times the wear of carbon steel.

Unlike LDPE, which is harder, stronger, heavier and less ductile, HDPE pipe is used worldwide in applications such as water pipes, gas pipes, sewer pipes, slurry lines, rural irrigation, fire system supply lines, electrical and communications piping, and storm and drainage pipes.

While HDPE pipes are often estimated to last 50 years, they actually have a more likely life expectancy of 100 years.

What are the applications for HDPE pipe and fittings?

HDPE has a variety of applications. They can be used for water and gas mains, sewers, rural irrigation, fire system supply lines, drains, and more. These pipes can be melted and modified to make them strong, flexible and durable.

Why are HDPE pipes and fittings ideal for agricultural applications?

The following mentioned properties make these pipes ideal for all agricultural applications.

No pipe fatigue: HDPE pipes have excellent fatigue resistance. Unlike plastic pipes, they are able to handle the occasional and recurring surges of water flow that are very common in water distribution systems. These pipes are ductile, but they are not rigid.

No water loss: HDPE piping is a leak-free joint. While other piping systems are very susceptible to water loss due to the type of joints they use, HDPE piping can be thermally connected. This results in permanent leak-free joints that help us save our most valuable resources.

High Durability: HDPE pipes will not corrode or rust. This extends their life and saves on long-term costs. With 50-100 years of service, HDPE pipes are the ideal solution depending on use, installation and project design.

Fast installation: Due to its lightness, the transportation, handling and installation process is shortened. In addition, it does not require heavy machinery to move it.

Flexibility: They adapt to changes in orientation and bending, so they do not make fittings or additional tools. In contrast, it is more flexible than polyethylene.

Efficient: Thanks to their flat internal parts, they facilitate the flow of liquids to the pipes of other materials. In addition, they do not accumulate deposits or crusts on the inside.

HDPE pipe manufacturers ensure superior performance and quality of HDPE pipes to ensure consumers receive clean and safe drinking water. While other pipes are likely to leak, resulting in increased use of electricity to treat and pump water, HDPE ensures zero leaks. This reduces the need for electricity, which helps consumers save on utility costs. Together, these make HDPE ideal for agricultural and irrigation applications.
