HDPE pipe is a flexible plastic pipe made of thermoplastic high-density polyethylene, which is widely used for the transportation of low-temperature fluids and gases. In recent years, HDPE pipe has been widely used for transporting potable water, hazardous waste, various gases, slurries, fire water, storm water, etc. The strong molecular bonds of HDPE pipe help it to be used in high pressure pipelines.
Polyethylene pipe has a long and distinguished history of service in the gas, oil, mining, water and other industries. The HDPE pipe industry is growing rapidly because of its light weight and corrosion resistance. 1953 saw the discovery of high density polyethylene (HDPE) by Karl Ziegler and Erhard Holzkamp. 0 C), the use of HDPE pipe is not recommended.
HDPE pipe is made from the polymerization of ethylene, a by-product of petroleum. Various additives (stabilizers, fillers, plasticizers, softeners, lubricants, colorants, flame retardants, blowing agents, crosslinkers, UV degradable additives, etc.) are added to produce the final HDPE pipe and components. HDPE pipe lengths are made by heating the HDPE resin. It is then extruded through a die, which determines the diameter of the pipe.
HDPE Gas Pipe
The pipe wall thickness is determined by a combination of die size, screw speed and tractor speed. Typically, 3-5% carbon black is added to the HDPE to make it UV resistant, which turns the HDPE pipe black. Other color variants are available, but are usually not used often. Colored or striped HDPE tubing is typically 90-95% black material.
HDPE pipe is divided into several pressure classes, called PN classes, based on maximum pressure resistance. They are
PN 2.5 - maximum pressure 2.5 bar
PN 4 - maximum pressure 4 bar
PN 6 - max. pressure 6 bar
PN 10 - max. pressure 10 bar
PN 16 - max. pressure 16 bar
PN 20 - max. pressure 20 bar
PN 25 - max. pressure 25 bar
HDPE Dredge Pipe
Similarly, depending on the type of material used HDPE pipes are divided into the following types.
PE 63 - medium pressure piping systems
PE 80 - gas pipes for gas distribution networks up to 4 bar or drinking water pipes up to 16 bar - sewers, drains, industrial pipes
PE 100 - for demanding piping applications
The number after PE indicates the minimum Bar strength required for a 50-year life at 20 0 C and corresponds to ISO-4427. The rated working pressure of HDPE pipes is determined at 20 0 C. For higher temperatures, a derating factor is used to determine the maximum pressure that HDPE pipe can withstand.
Since HDPE pipe manufacturing is a continuous process, any length of pipe can be manufactured. However, due to transportation requirements and ease of field handling, HDPE pipe lengths are limited and are typically produced in standard lengths of 6, 10, 12, 15, 24 and 30 meters. HDPE pipes can be produced in lengths of 50 and 100 meters upon request.
